"It's the little conversations that build relationships and make an impact on each student."
Robert John Meehan
Our class teacher is: Darren
and the other staff members helping us are: Bridget, Julie, Leah and Amelia.
In Robin class we learn through the Informal and pre-semi formal pathways. We love to learn through play-based, multi-sensory, research and other meaningful opportunities such as adult-led practical activities, role play, child-led play and experiences outside the classroom. These cross-curricular learning experiences develop our functional skills, independence and increased access to our curriculum.
Throughout our learning journey, we focus on the following key areas:
Cognition & Learning
Communication & Language
Social, Emotional & Mental Health
Physical & Sensory
Independence & Self-help
We record our progress and achievements in our class floor book, individual learning folders, and we each have individual learning targets that are assessed and recorded through Evidence for Learning. We like to share our exciting experiences and adventures through our class webpage and Class Dojo.

Reading and Phonics
In Robin class we love to read with the adults who support us. We explore texts across the curriculum through sensory exploration and reading 1:1 with adults. We use drama, small world and sensory experiences to explore texts and stories. We have access to reading books that are suited to our reading ability through 'reading for fun' books, audiobooks, online texts through BugClub and Sign and shine. We also enjoy watching a story at the end of the day.
Phonics is explored daily at children's individual phases, using their methods of communication, in their morning tasks, phonics lesson starters and weekly phonics lessons.
Our class story this half term is:

Communication and Interaction
In Robin class we spend lots of time developing our communication and interaction skills. We enjoy a daily good morning group and snack time where we focus on interaction, and communication through the use of ICT, songs, videos and sensory resources.
Throughout the school day, we use a multi-sensory approach to develop and consolidate language. PECs, Makaton and Widgit visuals and symbols are in all areas and used across all subjects. Colourful Semantics is used to support the understanding and application of new and topic words. It is also used at each child's individual level to develop sentence structure and vocabulary.
Some of the children in class will also access Talk First sessions, use technology as an aid to access learning and record their ideas. Children will also have regular opportunities to apply their learning in the local community and on termly class trips.

Sensory
All Puffins have opportunities throughout the school day to take a movement break and have a sensory snack as we know this is essential to support regulation and readiness to learn.
Identified children will also take part in sessions such as;
Fun with Foods
Sensory processing
Rebound
Intervention Swimming
Deep Pressure
Attention Autism
M.O.V.E
Light room time
