As technology continues to advance and change at an increasing rate; with new gadgets, websites, games, apps and AI appearing daily, at White Ash school we aim to provide a curriculum that educates our learners, in all pathways, not only to be safe whilst using such technologies but also how it can aid in learning and communicating.
Learning objectives in each phase cover;
Self-image and Identity
Health, Wellbeing & Lifestyle
Relationships and Behaviours
Communication and Devices
The World Web
Privacy, Security & Ownership

We are very lucky to have a sensory light room where our learners with profound and multiple learning difficulties access resources that enhance their experiences and access to the curriculum. We have an ever growing, wide range of equipment that enables pupils to use their different senses to explore and understand the world around them
By accessing this space pupils can use technology to reproduce their voice, change lighting effects to grab attention, use sound systems and switches to encourage movement and explore tactile and interactive surfaces to build on curriculum knowledge. The sensory light room removes distractions that may be present in other spaces so pupils can be encouraged to develop and consolidate skills.
For a third year we will be taking part in the national Safer Internet day.
Last year we looked at how we can stay safe using different devices through the theme 'Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online'.
This year the theme is ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online‘. Children across school will take part in a range of activities and an assembly to learn more about the ways in which technology is a fantastic tool to help us learn about the world around us.
Here you will find lots of information on how to stay safe, report concerns and guides on the different games, apps and devices our young people access today.
Swiggle is a child friendly and safe search engine that will reduce the risks of harmful content reaching your child. There is a hand button which allows the child to cover the screen should anything they should not or do not want to see pops up. This means they can then tell the closest adult who can support and report.
