This half term our topic has been ‘Kings, Queens and Castles’. We have learnt about who lives in castles, what features they have and had lots of fun building our own out of different materials! Some of them were as big as us!
One morning we had our lovely parents join us for a morning of festive crafts and play. We made Christmas cards, decorated biscuits, built different patterns out of blocks and coloured in with our parents helping us. It was wonderful to have everyone come together and join in!
This half term we've been working very hard across all subjects. In English we have been reading 'The Tin Forest'. We built our own tin forest for our display using scrap cardboard and tinfoil. We have been using colourful semantics to describe events in the story and seeing if we can sequence the events from memory. In Maths we have been using number lines to help us add and subtract with bigger numbers and exploring money and how we can use different coins to add to different amounts. We have been working in pairs and groups in PE to compete in different games and use communication to work together.
We have celebrated lots of different days this half term. On Remembrance Day we made a variety of poppies and learnt about the different words used around Remembrance. For Bonfire Night we created our own sparklers out of foil and cellophane and traced our own fireworks in glitter. We have also had a whole school science day! We got to explore magnets and conduct lots of different experiments such as making tinfoil boats that can float and creating working parachutes.
We enjoyed our Puffin trip day in class by playing with our favourite toys, watching our favourite movies and playing on the trampoline.
Finally, we have started to feel festive! The Puffins have loved making a range of Christmas crafts from baubles to reindeer hot chocolate cones and cards to creating our own versions of the 12 days of Christmas! We 'elf-ed' ourselves and decorated our tree in class with all our creations. What an exciting half term!
