Autumn 1 - Finch Class

Finch class have been learning all about Explorers and Inventors.

Each week we used our senses to explore and aid our learning. We have explored lights, smells, tastes and sounds when looking at our text; 'Emma Jane's Aeroplane', and have explored  items that have been invented (e.g. phones, light bulbs) and areas that have been explored (like Vikings discovering land, and astronaughts exploring Space).

We have enjoyed reading and listening to this story each week. We have used lots of resources and props alongside the story to explore each part of the story. Activities relating to our story have been- matching objects from the text to a picture, matching picture to picture, identifying characters and beginning to trace over letters.

We have created artwork based upon different inventions, including making a space-shuttle, telephones, hot air balloons,  and developed our techniques using different tools.

Lots of images, symbols and Makaton were also used to support further understanding and encourage communication. 

In maths we  explored Length, weight and worked on our counting to build up towards addition. We used phrases like "one more is...".

In Science we have been exploring Electricity and what items use it. We made a circuit . We also used our electricity exploration when we celebrated Diwali for our Design Technology day. 

We also dedicated a whole day to Art, in which we made our own Kandinsky pictures.

In PE we have been developing our Fundamental Movement Skills. We have participated within warm up activities to develop our running, hopping and jumping skills. Then practised our balance skills when using the benches and boxes to move up and down equipment. 

We had a whole-school well-being day 22nd October 2025. This was Halloween/Autumn themed and lots of fun activities took place throughout the day such as, a halloween hunt outdoors, halloween attention autism sessions, halloween story sessions and halloween art activities.
