Spring 2

This term we were looking at The Ancient Egyptians

For our creative curriculum and topic, we looked closer into Ancient Egypt, the  landscape features and geography on the map, the jobs, the food and lots of artefacts. We even did some dress up role play as Pharoahs and mummies.  It was so much fun, and all our parents were delighted seeing all the photos over our daily Dojo messages.

We had an educational Visit to the Thrive sensory centre in Leyland, which the children absolutely loved and got so much out of. Many parents are planning to take their child back there for a private visit.

In music, we tried our hand at Directing, but we also had weekly visits from a music specialist who had all the children participating and playing music.

In Science, we had a really exciting time looking at Living/Non-living things, and we got to explore and search for minibeasts outdoors.

We also got to make food recipes in design technology, and we looked closely at  food chains.

In RE, we spent a bit of time delving into Christianity and what that looks like. We were also able to celebrate the coming of easter by having an Easter themed well-being day, in which we did lots of feel good activities such as an easter egg hunt, an easter sensory story, and egg painting etc.

We also had a wonderful whole day celebrating bot Eid all around school, and also for World Book day... both involved  dressing up and having huge amounts of fun.

Over the term, we did lots of fun activities for our outdoor learning including a mini beast hunt, art activities painting on clingfilm in the woods, stories and singing  as well as all our other cross curricular activities that we took outdoors.

During one snow day we were able to take a Phonics and maths activity outside to write in the snow!

ENGLISH

In English, we were reading and listening to 'explanation texts' , in particular our class text Ancient Egypt.

We  had lots of sensory opportunities exploring Ancient Egyptian features.

We also used lots of ICT to research our topic, and our favourite one was using the onimat projector with an interactive Egyptian dessert floor.

In Phonics, we revisited the sounds: 's', 'a' and 't' by playing games such as Silly Soup, and sorting activities, and we started to explore the sounds p,i and n.

We have been practicing mark making and writing every week, using different mediums such as paint, foam, glitter, rice, penicil and crayon etc, and some of us can now write our names without any help! We have really focused on pre-writing activities requiring gross-motor skills. One of our favourite is to wave our hand-made ribbon wands to make our letters and shapes in the air. We are trying really hard with our cutting skills, and plan to keep this up next term.

MATHS

In Maths, we got fully emersed in length, weight and mass, as well as addition and subtraction, singing lots of songs and  using lots of physical learning opportunities both with objects and online interactive games.

As well as all that, we introduced position and direction, and we reallly explored the language and what that looked like.

We took this learning outside too, and programmed our ICT Beebots to obey the positional movements, which really got our brains working.

It's been another super-fun term, and we have learnt so much and grown so much more in every way.

We can't wait to see what Summer brings.
