“To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.” -Dr. Seuss

    Our Teacher is Hannah

Other adults that support us are: Faith, Laura Mc, Maxine, Marie

In Falcon class, our curriculum is specially tailored for learners on the pre-semi pathway. We deliver a rich, cross-curricular education rooted in play-based, multi-sensory, and meaningful learning. Through a balanced mix of adult-led activities, child-led play, and outdoor experiences, we maximise engagement and participation. This holistic approach supports our students in developing essential functional skills, fostering independence, and gaining full access to their learning journey.

Throughout our learning journey we focus on the following key areas:

    Cognition & Learning

    Communication & Language

    Social, Emotional & Mental Health

    Physical & Sensory

    Independence & Self-help

Our progress and achievements are recorded in our work files, outdoor learning and creative journals, alongside our class floor book. Individual learning goals are set and also recorded through Evidence for Learning. We also share our exciting adventures and experiences on Class Dojo and on webpage.

    Reading and phonics

In Falcon class we love to read and explore texts across the curriculum. We read every day to embed the language and skills.

Drama, small world and sensory experiences are used to explore texts. The children have access to reading books and bug club, both for their level. Reading books are sent home and changed every  Friday.

Phonics is taught at children's individual phases, using their methods of communication, in morning tasks, phonics lesson starters and weekly phonics sessions. Some children may be identified for a reading or phonics interventions through our termly assessments.

Our text this half term is:

    Communication & Interaction

In Falcon class, we have a huge focus on developing our communication skills. We do this through communication lessons and also through snack, play and outdoor learning. We explore communication through attention autism sessions, jabadeo and choosing time.

Throughout the school day we use a total communication approach to develop and consolidate language.  PECs, Makaton and symbols are in all areas and used across all subjects. Colourful Semantics is also used to support the understanding and application of new and topics words.

    Sensory

We all have opportunities throughout the school day to take a movement break and have a sensory snack as we know this is essential to support regulation and readiness to learn.

    Identified children will also take part in sessions such as;

    Fun with Foods

    Sensory processing

    Rebound

    Deep Pressure

    Attention Autism

    M.O.V.E

    Light room time

    PSE & Life Skills

We teach and support Life skills and PSE through whole class lessons, class routines and experiences in the local community.

Life skills include; Functional self help skills, social skills, and vocational skills.

PSE include; Rules and responsibilities, relationships, health and wellbeing, staying safe and Money.

These are through both the curriculum expectations and identified individual needs on ILPs

In addition, as a school we have our 5 Healthy Aims  which we work hard every day to achieve.

This is what our week looks like:

Alongside our main class timetable above, we have individual timetables as some Falcons access interventions and personalised programmes.

Every morning we begin our day by identifying the date, weather and the activities on the daily timetable. Where possible changes are marked as a surprise and spoken through. Up coming events or visitors are also added with an appropriate visual to prepare the children.
